Garth Wilcox

Garth Wilcox is an MIT-trained Naval Architect. He has been designing ships, tugs, barges, ferries, fishing and research vessels for more than 30 years. He has voyaged offshore more than 80,000 miles, including a global circumnavigation, during which he was shipwrecked had the "opportunity" to rebuild his family's wooden vessel in the South Pacific. His 34,000-mile Pacific circumnavigation with his wife, Wendy Hinman, is highlighted in her lighthearted book, Tightwads on the Loose, including the story of Garth crafting a keel-boat hauling trailer to repair their boat in the Marshall Islands. Garth has raced sailboats most of his life and skippered winning race programs. Garth has built several dinghies of wood, and is currently hand-building a 38-foot lifting keel wooden sailboat of his own design. His experience designing, building, offshore sailing and racing so many miles give him a unique and practical perspective.
