 This 30 minute presentation explains the mechanics of foil shapes, and discusses their applications in sailing and boatbuilding. Listeners will learn what a foil is, how they work, why they're beneficial, and where they're used in boats, from simple rudders to cutting edge hydrofoiling sailboats. They'll also learn how to geometrically produce any symmetric foil shape without the need for a computer.
