I was asked by the CEO of National Sea Rescue Institute in South Africa to write an article on how to survive an ocean capsize. He was concerned about how many people continue to lose their lives in coastal and ocean capsizes. They published the article in NSRI magazine and he said that he would like that knowledge to be spread far and wide. I would like to do a PowerPoint presentation on the same subject. We all have preconceived ideas on what we would do in that situation but instinctive action might be a guarantee of death, whereas prior knowledge may make us react more thoughtfully and contribute to survival. We all think that these survival situations belong to other people but the more time that we spend on the water the greater the chance that we will be among those "other people".
